Explore the heart of 18th century Newport and discuss the year-long period when roughly 12,000 French soldiers and sailors lived alongside Newport citizens during the American Revolution. Learn how the French contribution to the Revolutionary War was vital to the success of American Independence—and it began in Newport. Tickets should be purchased online in advance of the tour to guarantee availability. Walking tours depart outside of the Museum of Newport History at the Brick Market, located at the foot of Washington Square, 127 Thames Street, Newport RI. Attendees should look for a sandwich board sign indicating where to check in with the guide and depart for the tour to the north of the building near the flagpole. Tours cost $15-$20 per person, $10-$15 for Newport Historical Society members, active duty and retired military with ID; $5-$8 for children ages 5-12.
